Scottish First Minister John Swinney said that, if the SNP form the next government in Edinburgh, it will criminalise conversion practices if the UK government does not commit to doing so.
Scottish Parliamentary elections take place on 7 May, and LGBT activists are pushing hard for the broadest possible law.
A ban on conversion practices would make it illegal to seek to persuade an LGBT person to change their sexual orientation or gender identity.
It could criminalise parents who don’t want their gender-confused children to have sex-change treatments, and church ministers could face prosecution for preaching sermons in line with biblical sexual ethics.
