A stroke victim died after an NHS hospital was found to have unlawfully withdrawn life-sustaining treatment, the Court of Appeal has ruled.
The case raises fresh concerns about the protection of vulnerable patients, the rights of the family, and the sanctity of life.
Robert Barnor, 68, suffered a severe stroke in April 2025 that left him with significant brain damage. Although he had been taken off a ventilator, he remained dependent on regular dialysis because of kidney failure.
His family said he showed signs of awareness, including tracking people with his eyes, responding to music, and squeezing his wife’s hand when asked.
