The Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) is seeking to remove a Christian teacher from the profession for allegedly ‘misgendering’ a female pupil who self-identified as a boy.

Joshua Sutcliffe, 32, from London, appeared before the TRA’s professional conduct panel in Coventry last month.

He faces a series of allegations, including that he called Muhammad a ‘false prophet’ on his personal YouTube channel, and gave his opinion about same-sex marriage.

If the TRA rules against him, he could be struck off and unable to teach. Sutcliffe is being defended by the Christian Legal Centre.

The TRA is targeting an exceptional teacher because his Christian beliefs do not fall in line with the prevailing secular orthodoxy which cannot tolerate any dissent. - Andrea Williams, Christian Legal Centre
