You may have heard a fair bit about the so-called 'Quiet Revival', a surge of interest in Christianity and church-going, especially among young adults. The Bible Society has reported an increase in monthly church attendance from 4% to 16% for 18–24-year-olds between 2018 and 2024. The phenomenon appears to be more widespread among young men than young women.

When people ask me about this Quiet Revival and how it has affected the church I pastor in South London, my stock answer is that it's so quiet that we haven't seen or heard a dicky-bird. Perhaps this is just 'sour grapes' on my part; maybe I'm just a bit miffed that we haven't witnessed a slice of the action yet.

Would we welcome revival if it came to our congregation or other congregations? You bet we would! But what is true revival? We should only welcome revival if it is the real thing.

True Christianity

This is related, of course, to a deeper question: what is true Christianity? Because when genuine revival occurs, it is never more nor less than the amplification or intensification of true, biblical, apostolic, spiritual Christianity.
