An award-winning child psychologist has won a six-year fight against the academic faculty that dismissed him for holding medical beliefs opposed to gender-swapping treatment.

After a long legal battle, Dr Allan Josephson has been awarded $1.6m (£1.2m) in a settlement with the University of Louisville (UL). Dr Josephson had led the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychology at UL for nearly 15 years.

He had been in academia for nearly 40 years and received the prestigious Oskar Pfister Award, which honours outstanding contributions in the field of psychiatry and religion.
