A ruling by the US Supreme Court against Colorado’s conversion therapy ban has encouraged lawyers representing other clients to pursue similar appeals.
In a landmark case at the end of March, Chiles v. Salazar, the US Supreme Court upheld the claim by therapist Kaley Chiles, who argued that she should be allowed to continue to provide professional counselling for minors and young people.
She and her legal team, ADF International, argued successfully that Colorado’s conversion therapy ban goes against the First Amendment right to free speech.
As a result of the Supreme Court upholding her case and criticising Colorado, Chiles can continue counselling gender-confused minors who wish to feel more comfortable in their own bodies, or young people who want to reduce feelings of same-sex attraction.
