The Republic of Ireland’s new hate crime bill means Irish citizens would have to live in fear of criminal sanctions if they express unpopular views, politicians have warned.

The Criminal Justice (Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offences) Bill, which is currently going through the Oireachtas, will expand and replace existing hate crime legislation in Ireland.
