Palestine

June 2014

A young Palestinian woman and her family have been threatened after a YouTube film of her calling for freedom of speech and women’s rights in her homeland went viral.

Known as Christy, the woman, who was born in Bethlehem but lives in the UK, said she and her family members received death threats in the UK after her film went public.

According to Christian Concern, Christy made a plea to the chief Palestinian negotiator, Dr Saleb Erekat, to honour the promise he made to her on Al Jazeera TV that, during his lifetime, Palestine would see freedom of expression, accountability, transparency and women’s rights.
