Pastor for Parkside
On 30 December 2012, after 17 years of faithful service, Roger Purdom retired as pastor of Parkside Evangelical Church, Littlehampton, and officially handed over the pastorate to Rory McClure.
Before coming to Littlehampton, Mr Purdom had been a headmaster, and his pastorate was also blessed with faithful service to Littlehampton’s schools. He is hoping to use his retirement to devote more time to maintaining and developing his Christian influence on the town’s schools.
Then, on 6 January, Mr McClure was inducted as Parkside’s pastor. Stuart Cashman of Duke Street Church, Richmond, presided and led Mr McClure and the congregation through vows of commitment to God, the Scriptures and one another.
Mr McClure and Mr Cashman are both graduates of Covenant Theological Seminary, St Louis, US, where they first met. They graduated in December 2010, when Mr Cashman returned to his position of associate minister of Duke Street Church, and Mr McClure went to serve as assistant minister of Carnmoney Presbyterian Church, Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland.
Mr McClure is married to Valerie and they have four children aged between two and seven. They met and married in Worcester, before moving to the US to study.
Mr McClure inherits from Mr Purdom the leadership of a strong, vibrant, outward looking church, with more than 100 people worshipping each Sunday morning and roughly 40 on Sunday evenings.
By God’s grace and under Mr McClure’s leadership, we are hoping to keep the church moving forward in commitment to the Scriptures, spiritual growth, love for Jesus, evangelism and service to Littlehampton and the world.
