Girl Guide promise

The Girl Guides’ association, Girlguiding UK, is set to follow the example of the UK Scouts by consulting the public on whether to drop supposedly outdated wording in the Girl Guides’ promise.
The UK Scouts Association is already conducting a survey to see whether the wording of its old promise should be changed.
According to Christian Concern, the Girl Guides’ traditional promise — ‘To love God, serve other people and to keep the Girl Guide law’ — could end up with no reference to God, depending on responses to the consultation.
In a statement, Christian Concern said, ‘The founding principles of the Girl Guiding and Scouting movements are based on a Christian outlook. Removing any references to God from its pledge will dilute its ethos and make the movement less distinctive’.
The survey is available online and open to all members of the public. The closing date is 3 March (https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/B82FN6S).
