Bishop urges love

The outspoken Archbishop of Jos, Benjamin Kwashi, has urged his congregation and fellow ministers to love their enemies and defeat evil with good.
Mr Kwashi was visiting the UK during the summer to highlight the plight of Nigerian Christians in the north of the country, where the militant Islamic group Boko Haram is increasing its terror attacks on Christians.
He was the guest of international agency Release, which said in a statement that the Nigerian death toll has been put at more than 1000. Latest media reports say the Nigerian government is attempting to talk to the terrorist group through back channels.
The most recent attack was on 6 August, when gunmen opened fire on a worship service at an evangelical church in central Nigeria, killing at least 19 people, including the pastor.
However, according to Release, Nigeria’s Christians are facing the toughest questions of faith and existence, including whether to migrate or to stay and defend their churches and homes.
Some Christians have been accused of retaliating after the attacks, while church leaders, including the Archbishop of Jos, urge them to obey Christ’s teachings to love their enemies.
