Five people were arrested in southern China after it was discovered that a teenager sold his kidney so he could buy an iPhone and iPad.
According to a BBC report, one of the five who were detained was the surgeon who removed the kidney from the boy in April last year. The teenager, known as Wang, received roughly $3,000 (£1,890) for his kidney and is now said to be suffering renal failure.
Quoting the Chinese state media agency, the detainees allegedly received roughly $35,000 (£22,000) for the transplant.
The case was discovered when his mother noticed the new gadgets. When asked where he got the money, the teenager admitted selling a kidney after being contacted through an internet chat room.
