Iranian women released

The two Christian women being held in an Iranian jail have been released without bail.

The women, Maryam Rustampoor and Marzieh Amirizadeh, had been in prison for 259 days since they were arrested on suspicion of anti-state activity in May, and had their homes searched and Bibles confiscated.

Attempts to force the women, in their late 20s, to recant their beliefs failed. They were held in Iran’s notorious Evin prison, where they suffered ill-health.

The women are under strict surveillance and will still have to face a trial. Andy Dipper of Release International said: ‘It’s not over yet. Pray that the charges would be dropped’.
