Ethical bank helps Girl Guides

January 2015

Girlguiding North Tyneside has opened its new residential outdoor centre and campsite, called Cheviot View, in the Northumberland National Park at Kirknewton.

The new centre was built, thanks to fundraising efforts and a loan from Charity Bank. Girlguiding North Tyneside — the operating name of the North Tyneside Guide Association — raised £265,000 and needed just £75,000 or so for ‘last brick’ funding to complete the internal work.

Charity Bank — the ethical bank that takes savings from individuals and institutions, and lends solely to social sector organisations — provided Cheviot View Outdoor Centre with the money.

The finished article will be two storeys, and have a kitchen, sitting room, large activity room, and five bedrooms, including one with facilities for people with disabilities.

The centre will accommodate up to 36 people, while the adjacent field provides camping facilities, with a separate shower and toilet block.
