Media – John Knox film

June 2016

A documentary film to commemorate the life of radical Scottish reformer John Knox was nominated for best factual film at the 2016 BAFTA Scotland New Talent Awards in April 2016.

Trinity Digital, the production company behind the feature-length film, was set up in 2015 by Murdo Macleod, a freelance producer from the Isle of Skye. Mr Macleod grew up in the Free Church of Scotland, the son of a preacher, and has been a Christian since his teens. The film follows the life and legacy of Scottish revolutionary John Knox, whose 500th anniversary was celebrated in 2014.

According to a statement from Trinity Digital, Knox was one of the most influential men of his generation, shaping and guiding the Protestant Reformation as it took hold in Scotland.

Knox was also nominated for ‘Best Director’, ‘Best Documentary’ and ‘Most Creative’ at the International Christian Film Festival 2016, which was held in Orlando, Florida, this April.

Mr Macleod said, ‘It is very rare for an explicitly Christian film to achieve recognition in the mainstream industry, and we hope this nomination will allow the Christian message that Knox preached to reach a wider contemporary audience in Scotland than just the church’.
