Teenage pregnancy tests
Teenage girls, many below the age of consent, are snapping up 99p pregnancy tests from bargain shops. One such store in Sussex is being accused of encouraging sexual activity.
A report from the Daily Mail revealed that dozens of young teenagers are purchasing the kits from the Fabulous 99s store in Crawley, West Sussex.
While most chemists charge up to £10 for such kits, the store’s cheap price has led mothers to claim this might lead to a rise in teenage pregnancies as girls perform their own tests without parents knowing. The manager told the Mail that kits on sale for 99p would not encourage underage sex, as such girls would engage in it anyway.
